Stellar M22 IPL for Age Spots and Uneven Pigmentation

Stellar M22 IPL uses pulses of filtered light to target excess pigment in the skin. It can help fade suitable sun-related brown spots on the backs of the hands and improve uneven skin tone.

IPL is a light treatment, rather than a laser. Your practitioner will assess your skin tone, recent sun exposure and pigmentation before recommending treatment. Treated spots may temporarily darken before fading as the skin recovers.

RevLite laser delivers short pulses of laser energy that target pigment. It may be recommended for selected benign age spots following an assessment of the marks and your skin.

The treatment plan depends on the type of pigmentation and your skin’s response. Laser treatment does not replace volume lost beneath the skin.

Dermapen Microneedling for Texture and Fine Lines

Dermapen microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries, stimulating the skin’s repair response and collagen production.

It may help improve fine lines and uneven texture on ageing hands, with changes developing gradually. It is an option for skin quality rather than a direct replacement for lost volume.

Profhilo for Hydration and Crepey Skin

Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment used to improve skin hydration and quality. It may be suitable for hands that look dehydrated or finely creased.

Profhilo works differently from a volumising dermal filler. When hollowing is the main concern, your clinician will assess whether a filler is more appropriate.

Dermal Fillers for Loss of Hand Volume

Dermal fillers can restore fullness to the backs of the hands. This may soften the appearance of prominent veins and tendons where they have become more noticeable because of volume loss.

Fillers do not remove the veins themselves or treat brown age spots. Your clinician will discuss the product, expected outcome and injection-related risks before treatment.

What Causes Ageing Hands?

Changes in the appearance of your hands usually develop through a combination of natural ageing and environmental exposure.

Over time, the skin loses collagen and elastin, which help maintain its firmness and flexibility. Reduced fullness beneath the skin can also make veins and tendons more noticeable.

Years of sun exposure can contribute to brown age spots and uneven pigmentation on the backs of the hands. Meanwhile, ageing skin retains less moisture, and frequent washing or contact with detergents can make dryness more noticeable.

What Are the Signs of Ageing Hands?

Common changes include:

• Age spots: flat brown patches on the backs of the hands.
• Uneven skin tone: areas of pigmentation associated with sun exposure.
• Crepey skin and fine lines: a thin, finely wrinkled appearance.
• Dryness: skin that feels rough, tight or less supple.
• Loss of fullness: a more hollow appearance, with visible veins and tendons.

These changes can occur together, so different concerns may need different treatments.

A spot that changes in size, shape or colour, bleeds, or develops a persistent rough or scaly surface should be assessed by a GP or dermatologist before cosmetic treatment.

Aftercare Following Hand Rejuvenation

Your aftercare will depend on the treatment you receive. Follow the individual instructions provided by your practitioner.

• Protect your hands from the sun. Use broad-spectrum SPF 50 on exposed skin once your practitioner advises it is appropriate, and reapply after washing. Avoid tanning.
• Keep skincare gentle. Use the recommended moisturiser and avoid scrubs, exfoliating acids or retinoids until advised to restart them.
• Allow the skin to heal. Do not pick at darkened spots, flakes, blisters or crusts following pigment treatment.
• Follow advice after injections. Your clinician will explain how to care for injection sites and when you can resume exercise, heat exposure and other treatments.

Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur, depending on the procedure.
