Facial Thread Vein Treatment with Stellar M22 IPL
Stellar M22 IPL uses controlled pulses of light to target visible blood vessels beneath the skin. The light is absorbed by haemoglobin, the pigment in blood, and converted into heat. This helps close targeted vessels, reducing their visibility as the body gradually clears the treated tissue.
Treatment may also improve some surrounding redness. The aim is a more even complexion, with results depending on your skin and the vessels being treated.
What Happens During Treatment?
Your practitioner reviews your skin, medical history, medication and recent sun exposure before recommending treatment. A patch test may be required.
During treatment, you wear protective eyewear while the practitioner applies light pulses to the selected area. You may feel warmth or a brief snapping sensation. Cooling helps make treatment more comfortable.
Is IPL Suitable for Me?
IPL may be suitable for small, superficial facial vessels, but suitability depends on your skin tone, the vessels’ size and depth, and your medical history.
Darker or recently tanned skin needs particular consideration because the light can also be absorbed by skin pigment. Some vessels require a different approach.
If redness is associated with rosacea, IPL may form part of a wider treatment plan. It does not cure rosacea.
Understanding the condition
Facial thread veins develop when small blood vessels near the skin’s surface become persistently enlarged and visible. The medical term is telangiectasia. Although often called broken capillaries, the vessels are usually dilated rather than broken.
Contributing factors can include:
Heat, alcohol and spicy foods can trigger flushing in some people with rosacea, making redness more noticeable. These triggers are different from the underlying causes of persistent vessels.
Sun protection and gentle skincare support skin health, but they cannot guarantee that new thread veins will not develop.

What Do Facial Thread Veins Look Like?
Facial thread veins commonly appear as fine red or pink lines, small branching patterns or clusters of visible vessels around the nose and cheeks.
They may appear alongside persistent redness or episodes of flushing. However, visible vessels do not automatically mean you have rosacea.
Facial thread veins are generally harmless. If a mark is new, changing, bleeding or difficult to identify, seek medical assessment before cosmetic treatment.

Small vessels around the nostrils can remain visible even when your skin is not flushed. An assessment helps establish whether IPL is appropriate, as larger or deeper vessels may need a different treatment.
Thread Veins Across the Cheeks
Fine red lines or clusters of vessels can make the cheeks look uneven in colour. IPL can reduce suitable superficial vessels, although several appointments may be needed and complete clearance is not guaranteed.
Persistent Redness and Flushing
Visible vessels may occur alongside redness, sensitivity or frequent flushing. These symptoms can be associated with rosacea. IPL may help selected symptoms, while skincare, trigger management or prescribed treatment may also be needed.
