WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF IPL?
Immediately following the treatment, skin may feel warm and pink, similar to mild sunburn. This is completely normal and will soon die down.

HOW DOES IPL SKIN REJUVENATION WORK?
Pigment in your skin cells absorb light energy and converts it into heat. The heat destroys the pigment clearing up the skin. The pigment is then naturally broken down and processed by the body before being eliminated.

IPL stands for intense pulse light. It is a type of light therapy used to a number of skin conditions.
WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IPL AND LASER?
IPL is similar to laser treatment. Where it differs is a laser focuses one wavelength of light on your skin while the IPL releases many different wavelengths over a larger area and is less focussed then laser.
CAN I USE IPL ANYWHERE ON MY BODY?
IPL can be used anywhere on the body although it may not be as effective on uneven areas. It is not recommended for people who have thick keloid scars or darker skin tones.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY IPL APPOINTMENT?
Before your IPL treatment your practitioner will examine your skin and let you know what to expect. Let them know if you have any skin conditions which could affect healing such as acne or eczema. They may ask you to avoid certain activities, medications or products for: direct sunlight, tanning beds, waxing, chemical peels, collagen injections, drugs that increase bleeding risk, like aspirin (Ecotrin) or ibuprofen (Advil) creams/ products containing vitamin A, such as RetinA, or glycolic acid.
DOES IPL HURT?
IPL is not painful. The pulses might sting your skin but can be tolerated by most with it being compared to being snapped with a rubber band. Depending on the size of the area treatment usually takes around 30 to 60 minutes. For best results 3-6 six treatments are usually recommended spread out one month apart to allow skin to heal.
IS IPL EFFECTIVE?
The latest IPL devices can work as well some cosmetic treatments, such as fading blood vessels in the skin although you may need several treatments to get your desired result.
WHAT ARE THE RISK OF IPL?
Mild redness or swelling can occur after the treatment but this will fade within a day or two. In some cases, you may experience: bruising, blistering, change in skin color and infection.
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
There is now downtime with the procedure. The treated area of skin will be red and sensitive for a few hours and may fell as if you have sunburn. It may also be slightly swollen and will continue to be sensitive for a 48 hours after the procedure. You should using hot water on your skin until it heals.
IS IPL EFFECTIVE FOR ROSACEA?
IPL is a light therapy treatment using wavelengths to absorb Oxyhemoglobin which is found in the blood which causes the redness. Heat from the IPL helps destroy the the capillaries which causes the Rosacea.

- Have very dark skin
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL AFTER IPL?
Makeup can be used right away as long as you apply and remove it very gently. Bruising which is rare can take 1-2 weeks to heal. Freckles and age spots may initially look darker for 3-7 days.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN IPL TREATMENT?
Your practitioner firstly cleans the treated area and applies a cool gel onto your skin. Light pulses from the IPL device are applied to your skin. Dark glasses to protect your eyes are worn during treatment.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR BROWN SPOTS TO FADE AFTER IPL?
Brown spots treated typically get darker over the 24 hours following treatment then slowly fade away over the next 7-14 days.
HOW LONG DO IPL RESULTS LAST?
With proper skin care and diligent sun protection after IPL treatments, results can last for years.

If you have Rosacea then IPL is an established way to manage the condition by removing colour and improving skin tone.
