What is PRP?

Thinking About PRP (aka Dracula Facial)?

A Award-winning London Clinic Guide to Glowing Skin, Acne Marks and Hair Thinning

What is PRP?

PRP, sometimes referred to as the Vampire Facial or Dracula Facial when used for skin rejuvenation, is an advanced treatment that uses a concentrated portion of your own blood, rich in platelets and growth factors, to stimulate your body’s natural healing processes. By encouraging collagen production, tissue repair, and cell regeneration, PRP helps improve skin quality and support healthier hair growth.

At our six London clinics, we offer PRP in two main ways:

  • Skin PRP: Designed to improve skin texture, boost collagen production, reduce fine lines, and treat concerns such as acne scars and sun damage.
  • Hair PRP: Used to stimulate dormant hair follicles, helping to reduce hair thinning and promote stronger, healthier hair growth.

How PRP Works?

PRP treatment involves three key steps:

  1. Blood draw
A small blood sample is taken, similar to a routine blood test.
  2. Centrifuge separation
The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells.
  3. Reintroduction
The concentrated plasma is then injected or applied through microneedling into the treatment area.

Because PRP comes from your own blood and contains no synthetic additives, it is often chosen as a natural approach to skin and hair rejuvenation.

Skin PRP

Skin PRP is designed to improve overall skin quality and support collagen production. It can help with:

  • Acne scarring and uneven texture
  • Fine lines, including crow’s feet and smile lines
  • Dullness and uneven skin tone
  • General skin rejuvenation

Hair PRP

Hair PRP is used as a scalp injection treatment to support hair thinning concerns. It can help:

  • Stimulate inactive hair follicles
  • Improve scalp condition
  • Support thicker, stronger-looking hair

Results develop gradually, as PRP works by encouraging your body’s natural repair and regeneration process.

Timeline Of Results

PRP Facial Treatment Timeline  What You May Notice
Immediately after treatment  Mild redness, swelling, slight bruising
First few days  Mild dryness, tightness
1-2 weeks  Skin looks fresher, brighter, and more hydrated.
4-6 weeks  Gradual improvement in skin texture, elasticity, and firmness
8-12 weeks  More improvements in skin quality, dullness, uneven texture

Why Has PRP Become So Popular?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) has become one of the most talked-about aesthetic treatments in recent years, with celebrities, dermatologists, and skincare enthusiasts praising its ability to rejuvenate the skin using the body’s own natural healing process.

The treatment has gained even more attention after celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber openly discussed incorporating PRP into their skincare routines on Owen Thiele’s In Your Dreams podcast.

Celebrity-Approved Skin Rejuvenation

Kendall Jenner has spoken candidly about her long-standing struggles with acne and acne scarring. She has revealed that PRP microneedling has been a key part of her skincare routine, helping to improve the appearance of acne scars while supporting healthier, smoother skin. She has also used PRP injections to soften fine lines, including crow’s feet and laugh lines.

Hailey Bieber has also shared that she prefers a more natural approach to facial rejuvenation. Rather than relying heavily on Botox, she opts for PRP treatments, often combining them with microneedling to boost collagen production and improve overall skin quality.

Why Celebrities Love PRP

One of the biggest reasons PRP has become so popular is that it uses the patient’s own blood-derived growth factors to stimulate skin repair and regeneration. Unlike synthetic fillers, PRP works with your body’s natural healing mechanisms, making it an attractive option for those seeking subtle, natural-looking results.

Some of the most popular PRP applications include:

  • Microneedling: A combination of PRP and microneedling that stimulates collagen production, improves skin texture, softens acne scars, and restores a healthy glow.
  • Targeted PRP Injections: PRP can be injected into areas such as under the eyes, smile lines, and crow’s feet to support collagen production and improve skin quality without adding artificial volume.
  • PRP for Acne Scars: Many patients, including Kendall Jenner, use PRP alongside microneedling to help reduce the appearance of acne scarring and encourage smoother, more even skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many PRP sessions will I need?

Most treatment plans involve a course of 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions every 6–12 months.

Does PRP hurt?

A numbing cream is applied beforehand, so most clients describe the sensation as mild discomfort rather than pain.

When will I see results?

Initial improvements in skin texture and tone can appear within 2–3 weeks, with continued improvement over 2–3 months as collagen production increases.

Who should avoid PRP treatment?

PRP is suitable for everyone, excepting:

  • Certain autoimmune conditions
  • Are currently on blood-thinning medication
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are undergoing chemotherapy

How should I prepare for my PRP appointment?

To get the best results, it’s generally recommended to avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment, stay well hydrated in the days leading up to it (this can make the blood draw easier), and avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin or ibuprofen for a few days.

What aftercare is needed after PRP?

Most clients can return to normal activities the same day. It’s generally advised to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and direct sun exposure for 24 to 48 hours, and to avoid wearing makeup on the treated area for the rest of the day if microneedling was used alongside injection.

How Is PRP Different from Anti-wrinkle Treatment (Botox) and Dermal Fillers?

PRP has a different safety profile from Anti-wrinkle (Botox) and dermal filler because it uses plasma taken from your own blood.

However, PRP is not a direct replacement for Botox or filler. These treatments work in different ways and are designed for different concerns.  Anti-wrinkle (Botox) is commonly used to soften dynamic lines caused by facial movement, while dermal filler is used to restore or enhance volume. PRP focuses more on helping to improve skin quality, glow, texture, and firmness over time.

The most suitable option depends on your skin condition, facial concerns, treatment goals, and medical suitability. A free consultation at Premier Laser & Skin Clinic can help determine which approach is most appropriate for you.

Can PRP be combined with other treatments?

Yes.  PRP is often combined with microneedling, which helps the plasma penetrate more effectively into freshly stimulated skin.

Can I have PRP if I have sensitive skin?

Yes, PRP is considered one of the more suitable treatments for sensitive skin, since it uses only the client’s own blood with no synthetic additives, fragrances which lowers the risk of irritation or allergic reaction compared to some injectable treatments.
